What would an AI search before answering your prompt?

Assistants don't search your prompt word-for-word. They fan it out into smaller searches first. Type a prompt and get a predicted fan-out, honestly labeled as a prediction.

predicted searches per prompt

How it works

01

Type a prompt

The way a buyer would ask an AI assistant. Not a keyword.

02

Get the predicted searches

Web searches, questions, comparisons and refinements the assistant would likely run.

03

Cover the gaps

Every predicted search your site can't answer is a page an assistant will cite someone else for.

Predictions are a start. Observations are the product.

MentionFlow runs your real prompts against real engines every day and extracts the searches they actually performed, no guessing involved. That's part of AI brand monitoring, and AI content optimization turns the searches you don't cover into briefs and drafts.

Questions people ask

What is query fan-out?

When an AI assistant with web access gets a prompt, it doesn't search the prompt word-for-word. It silently expands it into several smaller searches (comparisons, questions, refinements), reads the results, then writes one answer. That expansion is the fan-out, and the pages that win those hidden searches are the pages the assistant cites.

Is this what engines really search?

No, and the tool says so on every result. This is a model's prediction of a plausible fan-out. Engines vary by day, model and user. MentionFlow subscribers see the real thing: the actual searches engines ran for their tracked prompts, extracted from real answer runs.

What do I do with the list?

Treat each predicted search as a content brief in miniature. If your site has no page that would rank for a search on the list, an assistant answering that prompt has nothing of yours to read. Write the page, or add the missing section to an existing one.

Why are there no search volumes?

Because we'd have to make them up. Fan-out queries are often conversational strings no keyword database measures. We show volumes in the app only when Google actually reports them, and this free tool shows none rather than inventing numbers.
